Transcription

Transcription is the conversion of spoken words in one language into written words in that same language.  We also offer a family of related services such as  subtitling and captioning.  Our services are usually charged based on length of the audio/video, i.e. minutes.

A-List Communication offers transcription services in many  languages.

An example of transcription: Spanish audio recording to Spanish text or Cantonese video recording to text in traditional Cantonese characters. Once the source language text is transcribed, we can then translate it into any other desired target language such as English.  We assist the attorneys in criminal courts to get the accurate and certified transcription on testimony during the discovery process before trial.

Subtitles and Captions both appear as text on the bottom of your screen when viewing a video, and typically represent the speech between characters on your television or computer. So what are their differences?

Subtitling is the conversion of spoken words in audio into a different written language.  Subtitles assume the viewer can hear but doesn’t understand the language. Subtitles translate the audio into another language and don’t include non-speech elements.

Captioning is the conversion of spoken words in audio into the same written language.  Captions are a transcription of dialogue, while subtitles are a translation. Captions assume the viewer cannot hear. They are time synchronized text of the audio content and include non-speech elements like noises.

Closed captioning allows the viewer to turn the captions on or off. Open captioning provides permanent captions.
